The Guideline Development Group (GDG) noted that the provision of a SPRM mattress was likely to reduce the risk of pressure ulcer development and as a result, reduce the NHS spend on treating pressure ulcers.

The GDG specify a Low Risk mattress should be used for the following:

• Adults who are assessed as being at Low risk of developing a pressure ulcer in primary and community care settings
• For all neonates and infants who have been identified as being at low risk of developing a pressure ulcer as part of their individualised care plan
• For all children and young people who have been assessed as being at low risk of developing a pressure ulcer as part of their individualised care plan
• Individuals awaiting admission in Accident and Emergency, particularly those on trolleys with little or no risk of developing pressure ulcers

Please Note - There may be occasions when the mattress will not be vacuum packed and rolled.
